Georg Friedrich Haas

Was born in Graz, Austria in 1953. He studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (inter alia with Gösta Neuwirth), piano (with Doris Wolf), and music pedagogy. 1981-83 postgraduate studies with Friedrich Cerha in Vienna. In 1999 Next Generation Composer at the Salzburg Festival. DAAD scholarship to Berlin in 1999/2000. He was awarded numerous prizes, including the Sandoz Award (1992), Music Award of the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Culture (1995), and the Ernst Krenek Prize sponsored by the City of Vienna for his chamber opera Nacht (1998) premiered in 1996 (in concert) and 1998 (on stage) at the Bregenz Festival.
