Olie Brice - Double Bass
Neil Metcalfe - Flute

ʻIʼm pleased to announce the release of a duo album with the great flautist Neil Metcalfe. The album is called ʻbrackishʼ, on FMR. It was beautifully recorded, mixed and mastered by Sherry Ostapovitch. Neil and I have been playing together every week for about a year and a half now. We initially worked together in a quartet with Mark Hanslip on tenor and Tony Marsh on drums, and also did a quartet gig with Evan Parker and Tony Marsh. We decided to start playing as an acoustic duo, and the process of developing that together has been one of the most rewarding musical experiences Iʼve hadʼ Olie Brice..............

This disc was recorded in St. Mary's Old Church in London in August of 2010. The bowed bass and bent notes of the flute blend especially well. The percussive approach to both instruments sounds similar as they bounce, ricochet and combine sounds and ideas. There is strong balance of ideas and interplay as this disc progresses, both musicians moving closer to each other's sound. The meeting of the spirits is consistent and eventually complete.
